A successful "house tuner" in New York City, who calibrates the sound in people's homes in order to adjust their moods, meets a client with a problem he can't solve.
Mannered, meticulous, and methodical, Peter (Peter Sarsgaard) is a self-taught scientist of the highly specialized profession of "house-tuning": calibrating the sound in people's' homes in order to adjust their moods. When he tries to "cure" his new client Ellen (Rashida Jones), his inability to fix her issues drives him to question his life's work.
