Twisters— Behind the scenes: Storm chasing and extreme weather
Program Description
Our discussion will be centered around the relationship between climate change and the frequency/intensity of extreme weather events. Evidence linking climate change to changes in severe weather patterns. We will highlight the potential future impact of climate change on tornado frequency and severity, mitigation strategies to address climate change and reduce its impact on extreme weather and policy and advocacy efforts to combat climate change at local, national, and global levels. Finally, all attendees will leave with an action plan on combating climate change.

Film Synopsis
A retired tornado-chaser and meteorologist is persuaded to return to Oklahoma to work with a new team and new technologies.
Haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado, Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar-Jones) gets lured back to the open plains by her friend Javi (Anthony Ramos) to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. She soon crosses paths with Tyler Owens (Glen Powell), a charming but reckless social-media superstar who thrives on posting his storm-chasing adventures. As storm season intensifies, Kate, Tyler and their competing teams find themselves in a fight for their lives as multiple systems converge over central Oklahoma.

About the Speaker
Rich is currently the co-owner and brewer at Berlinetta Brewing in Bridgeport, but before starting that he spent 15 years working in the tv/film/advertising industry as an editor and director. One of his first jobs in tv was as an assistant camera operator in the Discovery channel’s Storm Chasers. His involvement in that series led to him creating the IFC mockumentary tornado chasing series Funnel of Darkness.
