Centro Criollo de Ciencia y Tecnología del Caribe
The Centro Criollo de Ciencia y Tecnología del Caribe (C3Tec), located in Caguas, is a nonprofit organization founded in 2007 and opened to the public in 2013 as the first interactive center in the country focused on the STEAM educational model. It was created in response to the need to strengthen science education in Puerto Rico and promote the development of a knowledge-based economy, driven by the vision of former Mayor William Miranda Marín, impacting more than 650,000 visitors.
Since its opening, C3Tec has established itself as an innovative informal education space that promotes scientific curiosity, critical thinking, and interest in careers in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Through its permanent exhibition, “Our Bodies, Our Island, Our Planet,” and a wide range of educational programs such as Girls in Science, Academia Maker, and Encounters with Science, it has impacted more than 650,000 people of all ages.
As part of the “Educating City” concept, C3Tec integrates efforts alongside initiatives such as CIMATEC and the INNOVA Emerging Business Center, strengthening an innovation ecosystem in the region. Its approach extends beyond its physical facilities by bringing educational experiences to communities and organizations with limited access to this type of resources.
Committed to sustainability and aligned with the United Nations 2030 Agenda, C3Tec continues expanding its impact through multisector partnerships, educational programs, and inclusive learning experiences. Today, it reaffirms its mission to inspire, educate, and transform Puerto Rico through science and technology.
