Science Fair— Inspiring Stories From Young High School Innovators In Science And Engineering

Join us for a special screening of the comical and endearing film "Science Fair," a documentary from National Geographic that follows 9 high school students as they prepare for the next steps in their science fair competition journey. The film highlights the creativity, preparations, and determination of young innovators in science and engineering.

Following the film, we will have 4 special guests from El Paso that will talk about their own International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) experiences as competitors as they prepared for the world's largest science and engineering science research competition. They will also take questions from the audience members who will be attending the Texas State Science Fair and ISEF this coming year! Educator Mr. Castruita will also talk about how he focuses his own students to prepare for academic research competitions.

Film Synopsis

Filmmakers follow nine high school students from around the globe as they compete at the International Science and Engineering Fair. Facing off against 1,700 of the smartest, quirkiest teens from 78 countries, only one will be named Best in Fair.

Hailed by critics as "immensely likeable," "brilliant and quirky" and an "ode to the teenage science geeks on who our future depends," and winner of the audience award at Sundance and SXSW, National Geographic Documentary Films' Science Fair follows nine high school students from around the globe as they navigate rivalries, setbacks and, of course, hormones, on their journey to compete at The International Science and Engineering Fair. The film, from Fusion and Muck Media and directed by the DuPont Award-winning and Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaking team Cristina Costantini and Darren Foster, offers a front seat to the victories, defeats, and motivations of an incredible group of young men and women who are on a path to change their lives, and the world, through science.

She has won the Sweepstakes award at the Sun Country Regional Science and Engineering Fair two years in a row. Last year she won $10,000 at ISEF (International Science and Engineering Fair). She will be attending ISEF again this year.

Gwen is only a junior at Harmony Science Academy and has already been accepted to the US Naval Academy! Gwen has been a fierce competitor in several academic competitions since she was in elementary. Her next big move is to compete in the National Rocketry Competition in May 2026.

Victoria was an ISEF competitor in 2023. Since then, she has had her research protocol patented by the US NAVY for her groundbreaking method of preserving heat in space. She is now completing her masters Degree in Aerospace engineering and working as a consultant for NASA. Speaker 4: Anthony Castruita - a veteran teacher at Mission Early College, he has had more students from his classes sent to ISEF over the last 20 years. His methods and approach to doing research and inspiring young minds is unique. He will be sharing some tips on the research process.
