Film Synopsis

After being held captive in an Afghan cave, an industrialist creates a unique weaponized suit of armor to fight evil.

Based on the popular Marvel superhero, playboy billionaire and genius Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is the successful CIO of Stark Industries. While in Afghanistan to demonstrate the ultimate Jericho missile developed by his company, his military convoy is attacked, and Tony is kidnapped by a group of rebels that want him to assemble a missile for their use. Held captive in a cave for three months, Tony develops a unique weaponized suit of armor that allows him to escape. Once back home, he begins work on perfecting the Iron Man suit. But the man who was put in charge of Stark Industries, Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges), has plans to use Tony's technology for his own purposes.

About the Speaker

Dr. David Richards is a computational physicist in the Physical and Life Sciences Directorate at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he leads a team working with scientists at IBM to develop new models and methods for simulating the human heart using supercomputers.
